The bit before is the case-sensitive version, and I don&amp;#39;t know whether the locale of the install would have an effect on that.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I do recall that in the older case-insensitive password checks, there is an implicit UPPER which had some side-effects if you used passwords with characters beyond ASCII 127.
